City of Rolla Appoints Keith Riesberg as Next City Administrator

ROLLA, MO. – The City of Rolla is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Keith Riesberg as its next City Administrator following a unanimous decision by the Rolla City Council during closed session at the July 7th Council Meeting. Mr. Riesberg will officially begin his duties in late September 2025.
Mr. Riesberg’s selection follows a nationwide executive search facilitated by EverStrive Solutions, a public-sector consulting firm based in Independence, Missouri. He will succeed longtime City Administrator John Butz, who previously announced his plans to retire in November 2025 after close to 30 years of service to the community.

“We are excited to welcome Keith to Rolla,” said Mayor Lou Magdits. “He brings with him over 24 years of proven leadership in city management and a passion for high-quality public service. From his time in Missouri to his most recent role in Winter Park, Colorado, Keith has consistently demonstrated the kind of strategic thinking and steady leadership that will help guide Rolla into its next chapter.
Mayor Magdits also stated, “Over the course of nearly 30 years, John Butz has managed the day-to-day operations of the city with transparency, integrity and skill. He closes out his career highly respected both locally and throughout Missouri.”

Mr. Riesberg most recently served as Town Manager of Winter Park, Colorado, a nationally known resort community, where he oversaw major infrastructure investments, regional housing initiatives, and award-winning transit operations. His career also includes leadership positions with the Cities of Sedalia and O’Fallon, Missouri; Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and Roosevelt Park, Michigan.

"I am both honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve the City of Rolla,” said Riesberg. “Rolla is a community with a strong sense of place, anchored by exceptional education, health care, and civic institutions. I look forward to working closely with Mayor Magdits, the City Council, staff, and residents to build on that foundation and support Rolla’s continued growth and success.”

The City of Rolla extends its sincere appreciation to John Butz for his many years of outstanding service and leadership, and warmly welcomes Mr. Riesberg as he transitions into this new role.
