Rolla Board of Public Works Announces Planned Retirement of General Manager Rodney P. Bourne, PE

After 26 years of dedicated service to Rolla Municipal Utilities (RMU), the Rolla Board of Public Works, and the Rolla community, General Manager Rodney Bourne announced his retirement planned for April 2026. He made this announcement at the June 24th Board meeting in closed session. 
The Rolla Board of Public Works plans a formal executive search to identify Bourne's successor, ensuring a seamless transition and effective handoff of responsibilities. 

Rodney Bourne has' been a steadfast leader in public power, guiding RMU through significant advancements and ensuring reliable, affordable, and sustainable utility services for the community. His leadership extended beyond Rolla, as he also served on the board of directors for the American Public Power Association's Demonstration of Energy & Efficiency Program, representing Hometown Utilities from seven states in Region 3. 

Bourne's influence in Missouri's public utility sector has been substantial. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Missouri Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (MIRMA) and held past chairman roles with the Missouri Public Utility Alliance, Missouri Electric Commission, and Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities. His leadership has strengthened municipal utility services across the state.
Throughout his tenure, Bourne has emphasized the importance of experienced employees in maintaining RMU's infrastructure, ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations. His commitment to public service has left a lasting impact on the utility and the residents-it serves. 

After completing a BS degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from North Dakota State University in 1989, Bourne was recruited and worked as a power system design engineer on multiple power plant projects for Black & Veatch in Overland Park, KS. He accepted a position with RMU in 1998 as their Staff Engineer and was promoted to General Manager in 2009. 

Reflecting on his career, Bourne shared: 
"Rolla has been an excellent place for Lorie and me to raise our daughters, and/ look forward to continuing to be an engaged member of this community. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Rolla Board of Public Works for its leadership and support. It has been an honor to serve this community, and I am grateful for the experiences and relationships that have shaped my career. Thank you for the opportunity to lead, and I look forward to seeing RMU's continued success in the years ahead." 
Although stepping away from his role at RMU, Bourne plans to remain in Rolla, embracing retirement with travel, time at Norfork Lake, and continued personal business pursuits.
